May Newsletter

The April meeting was held at Three Mums and we received a very warm welcome from Carol and Nancy. They are now open for the season so be sure to stop by.

Plant Sale

Our 1st Annual Plant Sale will be held May 16th in the South Park in Pulaski (near the bandstand). The sale will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m - rain or shine. Fliers were handed out at the April meeting. If you didn't get any or need more you can print them off (right click, then save). Nancy Cheaver is our chairperson. Hopefully having it the same time and place every year will make it as profitable as possible.

Please get your plants potted up now so that they will look great on the day of the sale. Plants should be labeled with as much information as possible including name, sun requirements, color, size, etc. Plants should be dropped off at the park about 9 a.m. For those of us that can not drop off our plants at that time, two members have graciously agreed to to take plants ahead of time. Please contact either Claire Whitter, 270 Maltby Rd at 298-3003 or Marlene Connor, 315 Hinman at 298-2189.

Tables and awnings have been volunteered. The sign-up sheet is almost full and we can always use more help. If you are working please bring your own chair. Left over plants will be saved for our plant sale at the June 20th Garden Tour.

Vic Ladd-deGraff has volunteered to make up a Gardening Friends Club information sheet that we can hand out at both the Plant Sale and Garden Tour. It will tell who we are, what we do, when we meet, etc. The bottom will be designed so it can be torn off and used to join the club.

Community Service

One of the things Gardening Friends Club does is help others. Jean McKown and Laura Kehoe are on the committee to help with the landscaping at the Sandy Creek Library. They need 2 or 3 other people to help with this community service outreach project. Call Marci Groman at 387-3329 if you can volunteer. Also Nancy Cheever is doing the plant sale for the Sandy Creek Library May 9th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. It is part of their Plant, Book, Bake Sale fund raiser. If you can volunteer to help please contact Nancy at 232-2665. If you can't help, you can always go there and spend money!

Garden Tour

This year our Garden Tour and Plant Sale will be on June 20th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will start from the Pulaski Wesleyan Church on Route 11. Advance sale tickets are $5 and will be available at the Plant Dale on May 16th. Tickets on the day of the tour will be $8. Volunteers are still needed. Some of the jobs are advertisement, putting up balloons, host garden helper, greeters, ticket cashiers, welcome signs and refreshment donations from everyone. Barb Smith, Phil Reed and Linda Cough are the Garden Tour Committee.

Oswego County Fair

The County Fair was discussed. Nancy Dailey is very active with the Fair Committee and is encouraging as many people as possible to enter arrangements. We will also be forming a committee to do the club's booth. The theme is Backyard Pleasures and the set up day is June 30th. We have won the last few years and the prize is $75. Nancy Dailey will have raffle tickets for the quilt drawing at the May meeting.

May Meeting

Our next meeting will be May 20th, 7 p.m., at the Pulaski Wesleyan Church on Route 11. Guest speakers, Jan Smith and Donna and Ron James from Enchanted Acres in Fulton, will be talking about irises and hostas.

Dues will be accepted into June, however it would be a great help if anyone who has yet paid would do so at the May meeting.
